English Language Arts instruction at CCSP is based on a balanced literacy approach. Student learning includes the core elements as recommended by the National Reading Panel Report:

    • Phonemic Awareness
    • Phonics
    • Fluency
    • Vocabulary
    • Comprehension

In grades K-3, students engage in daily language work from the Fundations Component of the Wilson Language Program. Fundations lessons follow a research based trajectory with proven results in preventing reading difficulties by ensuring mastery of foundational reading skills in phonemic awareness, phonics, decoding and fluency. Students in grades 4 through 8, receive reading intervention using the Just Words Wilson Language program.
